Hand Woven Cotton and Gels

2022

13′ x 33′

The piece functions as a color study of time of day. By weaving warm sunset tones the viewer is interacting with light from a specific time of day continuously into day and night; exploring what happens when a coveted ephemeral moment is held indefinitely. By altering ambient light to hold certain colors for longer than they naturally occur, the piece explores how we perceive time and the duration of moments. Using yellow, orange, and pink tones blending together, the piece casts colors of iconic sunsets, the time of day we are most aware of the sun’s position. The piece aims to capture this fleetingness in a study of pausing our interaction with time and examining it. It creates an interactive environment inviting the viewer to see themselves in different lights.
